ABOUT THE AUTHOR:

I'm from Bogota DC, Colombia; where I obtained both an undergraduate and masters degree in mathematics from Universidad de los Andes. I spent 6 years studying advanced mathematics and was constantly marveled by their sophistication and elegance. During my time as a masters student at Universidad de los Andes I was also given the chance to teach some basic calculus courses for undergraduate students, an experience which I loved and hope to return to some day.

For my masters dissertation, I decided to merge mathematics with my other true passion in life, football. You can read about the results of the document in the blog's first entry titled "Exploring High-Dimensional Data Sets in Football: Topological Data Analysis". I decided that the life path for me was to move to the UK and attempt to find my way inside that exciting industry and wreak havoc by using the powerful tools of applied mathematics.

On my free time I greatly enjoy playing 7-a-side football (though in the UK they play a weird version with really wide goals and proper 11-a-side balls bouncing around everywhere), but also love to play squash. I try to travel as much as I can and have been trying lately to travel to a new place at least once every two months.

ABOUT THE BLOG:

The Open Football is about showcasing applications from advanced mathematics to football. Interesting techniques from data mining, probability, statistics, game theory, graph theory, topology, stochastic processes, etc. can be used to revolutionise and address inefficiencies in areas of football that we all love such as the transfer market, talent identification, management strategy and even game tactics.

In this blog I will try to regularly showcase in a simple and understandable way some of my ideas and applications but will also present some third party ideas and try and thoroughly explain the involved concepts so that any football fan can enjoy them.

I'm always happy to take mails at dperdomomeza@gmail.com. You can also follow me on twitter (@dperdomomeza1) where I will advertise new posts:
